Crossing the Hemisphere between East & West




Explore the basics of Ballet, Expand your dance vocabulary and Extend your body awareness to the tips of your fingers and toes! Like Belly Dancing, Ballet movements increase core strength, balance and stability. However, Ballet contrastingly focuses on expression through the limbs, rather than the pelvis and torso. It defines movement with a lifted and elongated posture, long lines and an intense attention to detail. Learn how to incorporate some classical ballet movements into your belly dance repertoire, while enriching your stagecraft with definition, elegance and finesse…

In this workshop, we will demystify and drill fundamental ballet movements, with a strong focus on classical technique, posture, arm carriage, spins, turns and footwork patterns; then we'll translate, fuse and layer them with belly dance movements to create stage-ready combinations!

Sultry Floorwork Skillz:
Fundamentals & Choreography


Floorwork has been an integral part of both traditional and non-traditional belly dance for centuries. 

 

​This INTENSE workshop starts with an essential yoga conditioning routine to identify and strengthen

the specific areas of the body needed for solid floorwork.  We will then learn some trademark bellydancing floorwork moves and then incorporate them into a sultry choreography

 

(All levels... 2 hours for partial choreography or 3 hours for full choreography. Bring kneepads!)

​Analysis of body structure, alignment and applied conditioning
to reach your body's full potential!




With the tools provided in this workshop, discover how to enhance your capability by further developing an understanding of your body.  We will discuss anatomical concepts and how natural skeletal and muscular differences affect each dancer's postures and movements uniquely. 

 

Proper posture, alignment and how to identify common misalignments in belly dance will be reviewed, as well as their roles in impeding or enhancing skill development -- vital knowledge for students and instructors alike!  Learn how that knowledge can then be incorporated into your regular dance or yoga practice to increase strength, flexibility and range of motion.

 

(All levels. 1 hour lecture, with optional 1 hour applied conditioning session)
